Passchendaele Remembered This is a new website to remember the tremendous Battle of Passchendaele, fought close to the historic city of Ypres in Flanders, Belgium. This battle, arguably the most controversial of the whole First World War, cost the British and Commonwealth Forces more than 300,000 casualties. This new website is by military historian Paul Reed (author of Walking The Salient); Paul has been visiting Ypres for more than 25 years and his great uncle, Private W.W. Adams, 144th Company Labour Corps, died of wounds during the Battle of Passchendaele in October 1917. He is ably assisted on the site by friends in Ypres, including Jacky Platteeuw (author and member of the Last Post Committe), Iain McHenry (Trench Map Tours) and Aurel Sercu (formerly of The Diggers). The site has been set up with the 90th Anniversary of Passchendaele in mind, and will cover both the Battle of Messines and the Battle of Passchendaele. It will include information on the 1917 related cemeteries, memorials and battle sites, plus other information on special events taking place in 2007.
